Assistant Director of Sports Nutrition
The College of Charleston Athletic Department is seeking a motivated, experienced, and collaborative sports dietitian to join our Sports Performance team as the Assistant Director of Sports Nutrition. This full-time position will work primarily with Baseball, Softball, and Volleyball, supporting student-athletes in achieving their health and performance goals. Under the supervision of the Director of Sports Nutrition, this individual will lead and implement comprehensive nutrition services, contribute to departmental program development, and serve as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary sports performance staff.
Essential Responsibilities
• Deliver comprehensive nutrition services to assigned sport programs (Baseball, Softball, Volleyball), including individual nutrition assessments, counseling, and personalized performance nutrition plans.
• Administer and interpret body composition analysis and translate findings into actionable recommendations for coaches and student-athletes.
• Develop and deliver evidence-based nutrition education to individuals and teams, including on topics such as fueling strategies, hydration, supplementation, and recovery.
• Counsel student-athletes on dietary supplement use, banned substance awareness, and NCAA compliance as it relates to nutrition.
• Plan and coordinate travel meal logistics, game-day nutrition operations, and practice fueling protocols in collaboration with coaching staffs.
• Assist in the development, maintenance, and operation of the department’s Fueling Stations, including inventory management, product ordering, receiving, and distribution.
• Collaborate effectively with coaches, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, team physicians, and food service personnel to support athlete well-being.
• Create and update nutrition education materials, social media content, and multi-media resources for student-athletes.
• Assist with recruit talks and campus visit programming as appropriate.
• Supervise and mentor work-study students, volunteers, and nutrition interns.
• Comply with all NCAA, CAA, College of Charleston, and CofC Athletics rules, regulations, and policies.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Current Registered Dietitian (RD) credential with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
• 2–4 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian.
• Experience providing nutrition services in a NCAA or professional sports setting.
• Must be eligible to obtain a South Carolina Dietitian License within 90 days of employment.
• Strong written and interpersonal communication skills with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic department staff.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Canva.
• Ability to work a non-standard schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD).
• 2 or more years of experience providing nutrition services in a sports setting (professional or collegiate).
• Experience in eating disorder screening and counseling.
• Knowledge of food service quality, safety standards, and catering operations.
