Performance Nutrition Fellow
Description
This professional internship opportunity is intended for highly motivated individuals who are interested in gaining valuable experience in the Collegiate Sports Dietetics profession. As a valuable performance nutrition team member, the performance nutrition fellow will help execute day to day operations of football nutrition. This position will primarily work with Olympic sports, including basketball, and assist the current performance nutrition staff with other designated tasks. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in working in the sports nutrition field and gain hours towards their CSSD (Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics) certification.
Qualifications
· Possess Bachelors in Dietetics, or related field
· RD or RD eligible, preferred
Benefits
· $2,500/month – ~7 month position
· Gain hands on performance nutrition experience in a Division I, Power 4 conference
· Travel with teams
· This position is not benefits eligible
Commitment
· The fellowship will run from late ~October through ~March
· Must be willing to work unconventional hours, including weekends and holidays
· Willing to work 40+ hours per week not including competition
Duties and Responsibilities
· Assist in developing assigned team nutrition protocols
· Provide nutrition education to team as needed
· Complete body composition assessments and interpretations
· Assist team dietitians in the planning and logistics of travel and competition fueling
· Collaborate with multi-disciplinary performance team
· Assist in menu selections
· Consult with team(s) pre, during, and post practice/game fueling at home
· Lead management of fueling station, including product management (receiving, storing, and inventory)
· Create educational materials (team talks, flyers, social media,etc.)
· Assist in management of student work force
· Provide individual meal planning and monitoring
· Perform other duties/tasks as assigned by the GT Performance Dietitian(s)
Required expectations and skills
· Ability to maintain HIPPA confidentiality and adhere to all department and university policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA.
· Ability to work independently and as an integral member of the sports nutrition team.
· Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment while still paying attention to detail.
· Possess strong time and priority management skills for complete project follow-through and execution.
· Possess effective oral and written communication skills in individual and group settings.
· Practice safe food handling skills.
· Be able to lift, push, and pull objects up to 30 lbs.
· Displays professionalism and integrity.
· Be reliable and dependable and accomplish assigned tasks with a positive attitude.
