Department: Performance Nutrition
Reports to: Sports Nutrition Director
Contract Type: Hourly rate, benefits, Full time (37.5hr a week + overtime)
Mealtimes: Breakfast, Lunch, Travel to Home Hotel on Fridays to attend Pasta Bar and Snack Bar.
Possibly (depending on experience) travel on Thursdays to away Hotels to meet with chefs and go over the meal plan and procedures for the game weekend.
Salary: 20-23$/hr depending on experience
The Football Team at the University of South Carolina is seeking multiple positions for a passionate and creative chef to join the performance nutrition team and support the nutritional and dietary needs of our Gamecock Football Team for the upcoming year. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing high quality, performance enhancing meals tailored to individual player requirements, seasonal trending demands and taste preferences. Small setting with no big kitchen allows for more creativity when preparing meals and coming up with new ideas.
You will play a crucial role in fueling the team success on and off the field, working closely with Performance Nutrition Director to deliver meals that support recovery, performance and overall wellbeing.
Our Football Culinary Philosophy evolves around using quality ingredients and specific portion guidelines depending on individual player needs and sport demands based on the different seasons.
Key responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Performance Nutrition Director to design menus and specific meals/snacks that align with performance goals and individual dietary needs.
- Take part in both breakfast bar food preparation and action station bar during lunch time.
- Design new recipes and demonstrate during small group cooking demos.
- Traveling during the season and take part in breakfast bar, pasta bar, communicate with hotel staff and post-game meal set up with program assistant (RD).
- Prepare food to recipe
specifications in a timely manner.
- Perform opening,
closing, and side work duties as instructed.
- Keep workstation and
cooking equipment clean, organized, and sanitized.
- Make sure food
temperatures are maintained, and food is stored properly. (ServSafe certification is a plus)
- Stores, labels and dates food items according to
policy; maintains established food rotations in storage in order to
minimize spoilage and waste.
- Assists management of purchasing requirements with a
focus on minimizing waste and avoiding product shortages.
- Follows HACCP guidelines to ensure quality and safety
of food supply.
- Operates food-service equipment in a safe manner and
according to established policies and procedures.
- Assist culinary team with athletic recruiting events.
- Contribute to a positive, high-performance environment with professionalism and team spirit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Requirements:- Culinary background and experience cooking with any type of sports.
- Formal Culinary Education
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends during the season months.
- Exceptional organizational skills and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Food Safety Certification
