Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati, Athletics Performance Nutrition is seeking applications for a Performance Nutrition Fellow. The fellow will actively participate as a member of the Performance Nutrition unit and will work directly with assigned Olympic sports teams in collaboration with the support staff and coaching staff while supporting the goals and initiatives of the Performance Nutrition unit. The Performance Nutrition Fellow will have an immersive sports nutrition experience while providing team performance nutrition services/responsibilities, complete a sports nutrition education curriculum, and be mentored by two full-time Performance Dietitians. The Performance Nutrition Fellow will work under the supervision of the Director of Performance Nutrition. This is a hourly (40 hours), non-benefit eligible position, lasting approximately 11 months with the possibility of an extension for a maximum duration of 24 months. This position is expected to run from July 2025 through early June 2026.

 

The individual in this position will have the ability to work a non-standard work week, including weekends and holidays. Effective oral and written communication, presentation, nutrition counseling skills, and strong interpersonal skills will be necessary for a successful applicant.



Essential Functions

  • Perform various duties related to a specific department within Athletics.
  • Counsel student-athletes regarding nutrition for optimal performance and health and medical conditions.
  • Assist with food service management and daily operations including but not limited to inventory, product ordering, fueling station aesthetics and education.
  • Develop educational materials & resources, including social media content.
  • Develop and deliver nutrition education presentations, demonstrations, or events related to performance to assigned teams.
  • Attend team workouts, practices, and games as needed to provide education and fuel to enhance performance.
  • Assist with travel nutrition needs for assigned teams – performance menus, pre/post-game fuel, post-game meals, recovery strategies, and snack bags.
  • Assist with menu development and oversight for training table meals.
  • Work closely with Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, and Sports Psychology and Wellness to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach for student-athlete health and wellness.
  • Assist with management, oversight, and mentorship of student volunteers/interns.
  • Examine and translate scientific research related to nutrition, athletic performance, and dietary supplements.
  • Evaluate dietary supplements for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Skill in the use of personal computer and related software applications. 
  • Desire to pursue a career within intercollegiate athletics. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart information. 
  • Must maintain NCAA compliance while in this role.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or related field


Required Experience

  • Skilled in the use of personal computer and related software applications.
  • Desire to pursue a career within intercollegiate athletics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart information.
  • Must maintain NCAA compliance while in this role.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with active status through the Commission on Dietetic Registration – or achieved within three (3) months of hire.
  • Licensure as required by the State Medical Board of Ohio – or achieved within three (3) months of hire.
  • Experience in collegiate or professional sports nutrition environment is ideal.
  • May require lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
