Performance Nutrition Fellow


Job Description:

Boise State University is seeking a dedicated individual to join its Performance Nutrition Team as a Nutrition Fellow. This one-year fellowship offers a unique opportunity for a registered dietitian (RD), or RD to be, to gain hands-on experience in a collegiate athletic setting while accruing hours toward Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) certification. The Fellow will play an integral role in supporting all 18 varsity sports teams, collaborating closely with coaches, athletic trainers, and other performance staff. This position provides a comprehensive experience in performance nutrition and contributes to the continued growth and development of the department. Upon successful completion, the fellowship may be renewed for an additional year. The position reports directly to the Assistant Athletic Director of Performance Nutrition.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide performance nutrition services as assigned (team education, nutrition counseling, hydration testing, blood work education, providing supplementation, etc). 

  • Collaborate with coaches and staff members on nutrition related topics. 

  • Coordinate medical nutrition therapy services for all SAs, which includes blood work, body composition and hydration testing. 

  • Assists in team education creation and planning.

  • Assists in instagram management and weekly fueling station education slides.

  • Assists in operating the fueling stations, as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned. 


Required Qualifications:

  • RD or RD eligible. Must pass the RD exam and become licensed in the state of Idaho within three months of hire date. 

  • Experience in collegiate, professional, or tactical sports nutrition.  

  • ​​A Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or related field. 

  • Strong interest in Sports Nutrition.

  • Ability to work a non-standard work week which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Be able to safely lift 50 pounds or greater.

  • Be able to stand for long periods of time (5+ hours).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree. 

  • Disordered eating or REDs counseling experience/interest.

  • Experience interpreting blood work results and delivering tailored education to patients or athletes to support health and performance outcomes.

  • Knowledge of NCAA Rules and Regulations regarding compliance issues.

  • Familiarity with the Mountain West conference.


Salary:

  • Start date July 2025 with position terminating in May 2026. 

  • $23/hr x 19 hours per week with 6 weeks during each Fall and Spring semester working up to 40 hours per week. Time off will be dependent on sports teams schedules and seasons.
