Position SummaryThe Assistant Performance Dietician reports directly to the Director of Sports Nutrition. This position includes the clinical, food service and education/outreach services provided to optimize the health and performance of UNC student-athletes. Primary responsibilities include individual nutrition counseling, team education, menu development, serving as a food and nutrition resource for coaches, athletic trainers, and sports performance staff for football and possibly some other assigned teams. The position requires strong clinical skills in the areas of diabetes, hypertension, lipid management, eating disorders, weight management, and other MNT (Medical Nutrition Therapy) diagnoses as well as a sound knowledge of performance enhancement principles and strategies based on the most up to date research.The Assistant Performance Dietitian provides scientifically-based counseling to student-athletes in order to optimize health and performance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to performing individual consults, conducting team talks, providing visual and verbal education, screening supplements, conducting and analyzing DEXA scans, and developing menus for football under the supervision of the Director of Performance Nutrition. The position coordinates student-athlete care with athletic training, strength and conditioning, sports science, performance innovation, sports psychology and counseling, and coaching staff.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsRelevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and ExperienceRelevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution. Registered dietitian (with active registration through Commission in Dietetic Registration) and ability to obtain North Carolina State RD Licensure within 3 months of date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience1.Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing nutrition care for athletes
2. Prior experience working with professional or collegiate athletes preferred
3.Compliance with FERPA and HIPAA.
4. Knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies: e.g., National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), regarding banned drugs and restricted substances.
5.Communicates effectively one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts
6.Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva, and Powerpoint
7.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with culturally diverse students and staff.
8. Certification as a CSSD (Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics) or willingness to obtain certification is highly desirable. 
9. Ability to work a non-traditional work week.
