About the Job

Core Responsibilities:

  • (35%) Conduct individual counseling sessions with a diverse group of football student-athletes. Ascertain nutrition diagnosis and develop individualized patient protocols based upon unique needs of student-athletes. Interpret medical and performance data, make medical recommendations and create workflows and patient protocols utilizing best practices, education, and evidence-based practice. Work collaboratively with athletic medicine, athletic performance, and sport psychology to determine individual outcomes for student-athletes. Assess, evaluate, and refine protocols based on critical review of measurable outcomes.
  • (20%) Manage the day-to-day operations of the football fueling stations, including scheduling and oversight of student volunteers and Dietetic Interns. Approve orders, manage inventory and make decisions regarding new products. Research, recommend, and approve any supplements available to the student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA Bylaw 10.2 regarding banned substances. 
  • (15%) Forecast, develop, and track the football nutrition budget (+$350K). Oversee menu development and relationships with catering, 3rd party vendors, and hotel and stadium staff for home and away contests. Advance for away competitions with the Director of Operations. Collaborate with Chartwells chef and staff to meet the dietary needs of a diverse group of student-athletes.
  • (15%) Participate meaningfully in meetings with football coaching staff and remain apprised of student-athlete performance needs. Incorporate nutrition goals with performance goals in a holistic approach. Serve as an educational resource for football coaching staff and stay abreast of current sports nutrition research and trends.
  • (10%) Generate, develop, and deliver educational materials and presentations for a variety of audiences (student-athletes, support staff, coaches, etc.). Determine educational needs and learning objectives and assess outcomes.
  • (5%) Assist the Director and Assistant Director of Sports Nutrition with hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating undergraduate students and dietetic interns with varying backgrounds.

  • Flexibility and meta-cognitive ability to strategically problem-solve a variety of complex and unique problems and situations. Ability to work independently, in a separate workspace and with infrequent checks from supervisor.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the needs of the unit with senior level members of ICA including the Director of Athletics, Senior Woman Administrator, and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Demonstrates excellence in fostering an inclusive environment for student-athletes from diverse backgrounds, cultivating mutual respect and understanding across cultural, religious, socioeconomic, and ethnic differences. 
  • Successfully builds meaningful connections with individuals and teams while acknowledging and celebrating their unique perspectives and experiences. 
  • Adapts communication and support strategies to meet the varied needs of student-athletes, ensuring equitable opportunities for growth and success in both athletic and academic pursuits.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in nutrition or a closely related field and two (2) years of work experience as a dietitian or,
  • A combination of related education and work experience equal to six years
  • Registered Dietitian (Commission on Dietetic Registration)
  • Licensed Dietitian (in State of Minnesota, or eligible for licensure upon hire)
  • 1 or more years experience working with football as a Registered Dietitian
  • Must be able to demonstrate authorization to work in the United States at the University of Minnesota by the start date

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Nutrition or related field.  
  • Currently holding CSSD credential or eligible for CSSD exam.
  • 3-4 years of work experience as a dietitian.
  • Experience working with Professional and/or Collegiate athletes.

Pay and Benefits


Pay Range: $71,000 - $74,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience 

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
