Minimum Position QualificationsMaster’s degree in sports nutrition, clinical nutrition, food and nutrition, exercise physiology, or related area, and two (2) years of experience in nutrition counseling.

Must be a registered dietitian with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association; Certification/Licensure as required by state of practice.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Special ConditionsThe department is especially interested in candidates who have experience in sports nutrition, as well as are Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD), and have previous experience working in a collegiate athletics environment.
Work ScheduleMonday – Friday
8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

This position may require work beyond the normal schedule including nights, weekends, some holidays, and travel.

Job Duties

Duties & ResponsibilitiesIndividual Nutrition Counseling:
Assess and/or oversee the assessment and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance (intake and expenditure) of student-athletes in the context of athletic performance and health
Counsel student-athletes on optimal nutrition for exercise training (match nutrition to training phases and goals), competition, recovery from exercise, weight management, hydration, immunity, disordered eating, travel, and supplementation.
Advise student-athletes on achieving and maintaining a level of body mass, body fat, and muscle mass that is consistent with good health and good performance.
Provide personalized meal and snack plans to promote achieving short and long-term goals for athletic performance and good health.
Develop hydration protocols.
Address nutritional challenges to performance, such as food allergies, bone mineral disturbances, gastrointestinal disturbances, iron depletion, and iron deficiency anemia.
Provide medical nutrition therapy, as needed, to help manage or treat medical conditions.
Advise student-athletes on optimal nutrition for recovery from illness or injury in collaboration with sports medicine staff.
Coordinate nutritional care as a member of multidisciplinary sports medicine/sports science teams.
Serve as liaison with in and outpatient programs for conditions such as disordered eating.
Evaluate nutritional supplements, including herbal supplements, for their legality, safety, quality, efficacy, and monitor the use of appropriate supplementation in accordance with NCAA guidelines.
Collaborate with the individual’s family, physician, coach, and other health professionals, as appropriate.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesFood Coordination and Menu Development:
Coordinate and manage the quantity of food production and distribution, plan and direct menus for training table and team travel, and direct implementation and/or development of food safety policies and procedures.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesNutrition Education for Teams:
Develop and deliver nutrition education presentations, demonstrations, or events on various topics related to nutrition for performance.
Recommend appropriate pre, during, and post-exercise fluids/snacks for individual training, team practice, and competitions.
Educate in food selection (grocery store tours, food storage) and food preparation (cooking classes).
Communicate and collaborate with strength coaches, athletic trainers, and the College of Health Sciences faculty in the implementation of nutrition support academic courses in line with NCAA guidelines.
Utilize social media outlets to share and educate student-athletes and support staff on nutritional standards and practices.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesProfessional Development:
Maintain dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.
Maintain professional representation at development events.
Maintain membership and active involvement in local, state, and national professional associations (e.g., Academy of Nutrition of Dietetics, CPSDA).
Participate in applied research through the completion and supervision of practical projects which address student-athlete needs.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesSupervision and Mentoring of Staff:
Mentor and oversee the Tiger Bites Graduate Assistant in their development as a sports nutritionist.
Develop rotations for Dietetic Interns in accordance with ACEND competencies for supervised practice experiences.
Develop rotations for undergraduate dietetic students in accordance with ACEND student learning outcomes.
Provide clear instructions and directions for undergraduate volunteers in the provision of food services.
Regularly attend athletic events as required to ensure proper processes and procedures are followed.
