Summary

The main function of the National Team Sport Dietitian is to educate and provide nutritional support to USA Boxing’s High Performance teams. This position works closely with all high performance staff and coaches, as well as the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s Sport Performance Team V.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 
  • Provide individual athlete nutrition coaching/counseling on basic nutrition, competitive eating, recovery, weight management, hydration, immune health, and fueling, to national teams
  • Advise athletes on proper weight making techniques and determine support for competition 
  • Develop and deliver nutrition education programs, including group presentations, factsheets, handouts, and travel protocols for coaches, athletes, and applicable staff 
  • Work with USA Boxing’s Sport Performance staff to develop annual testing plans for high performance athletes
  • Develop and manage an annual nutrition budget
  • Track and document measurable outcomes of nutrition services, and document nutrition notes in the Electronic Health Record
  • Evaluate and monitor athlete supplement usage in accordance with USADA, WADA and ITA testing requirements, be able to provide safe recommendations
  • Provide education on domestic and/or international travel nutrition
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on the performance menu at the USOPC dining facility
  • Develop, plan, and execute cooking classes to teach athletes important life skills, including nutrition education, and how to prepare quick and healthy meals
  • Conduct body composition evaluations using the ISAK skinfold method and evaluate DEXA results to provide feedback to athletes
  • Work as a proactive, collaborative member of USA Boxing’s High Performance staff, working closely with strength and conditioning, physiology, psychology, performance technology and sports medicine team members
  • Assist other USOPC RDs in completing tasks during high volume times
  • Translate latest scientific evidence into practical sport nutrition recommendations
  • Analyze and interpret dietary recalls in the context of athletic performance and health
  • Deliver MNT in accordance with professionally accepted Standards of Care
  • Evaluate athlete energy expenditure and balance
  • Pack snack bags for athletes traveling to camps and competitions so that they can continue fueling throughout their event
  • Travel with USA Boxing high performance teams to international competitions, upon request
  • Manage current supplement sponsorship product inventory and help identify additional nutritional sponsorship opportunities for USA Boxing
  • Manage all nutritional product inventory and within shelf stable lifespan

Qualifications

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or equivalent 
  • Master’s Degree preferred 
 

Experience and Proficiencies 

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in elite level combat, NCAA or professional sports 
  • Previous high performance experience with NGB or the USOPC preferred
  • Sports Nutrition needs weight management combat sports
  • Energy systems and metabolic processes
  • Nutrition periodization (matching nutrition and training cycles and goals)
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for full spectrum of dietary-related disorders and conditions
  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) compliance procedures
  • Food service quality and safety procedures (SERVESAFE) 
  • Development and management of an annual nutrition budget

Reports to:                         Assistant High Performance Director – Sport Performance

Supervisory Role:           N/A

Starting Date:                   January 6, 2025

Starting Salary:                $60,000-65,000

Salary Range:                    $60,000-$75,000

Working conditions:     Significant overtime is likely required during and leading up to major events

                                                Non-traditional work hours depending on high performance schedule

                                                Travel is required several times a year; some trips could be 4-6 weeks.
