Part-time independent contractor Sports Dietician to work in-person with performing artists; New York City

Looking for a sports dietitian with a subspecialty in eating disorder/disordered eating, Athlete Triad/REDs to be part of the Performance Nutrition Team at a competitive performing arts school.  The goal is to provide individual nutrition counseling and education to enhance the performance and health/well-being of competitive artistic athletes including dancers, actors, vocalists and musicians.  Primary responsibilities include counseling individuals on daily nutrition for performance and health; nutrient timing, translating the latest scientific evidence into practical sports nutrition recommendations; tracking and documenting outcomes of nutrition services, serving as a food and nutrition resource for students and administration; providing sports nutrition education for health/wellness programs -both material development and in person; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice. Additional responsibilities include being part of a Medical/Wellness Team, providing suggestions to Café, contributing innovative ideas to enhance existing  program.

 

 

Requirements and core competencies.

 

Must maintain professional accreditation

 

Must have liability insurance 

 

5 years’ experience preferred

 

Able to understand the extreme competitive nature, schedule demands, and physical requirements of professional performing artists in training including dance, drama, vocalists, and musicians. 

 

Creative, energetic, self-motivated, conscientious, open to feedback, willing to be part of a team.

  

Wednesday hours 9 AM-12 PM following school calendar (winter break, spring break, summers off)  

 

5 additional meetings/events, with notice, during the week throughout the year.  

 

-Provide personalized meal and snack plans to promote achieving short- and long-term goals for athletic performance and good health. 

 

- Develop and counsel on hydration protocols. 

 

- Addresses nutritional challenges to performance, such as gerds, food allergies, bone mineral disturbances, gastrointestinal disturbances, iron depletion, and iron-deficiency anemia. 

 

-Well-versed in a range of eating preferences from vegan to paleo

 

- Provide medical nutrition therapy, as needed, to help manage or treat medical conditions. 

 

- Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for recovery from illness or injury

 

-Counsel eating on-campus as well as when students live off campus or travel 


-Coordinate nutritional care as a member of multidisciplinary sports/health medical teams.

 

- Keep accurate records.
