The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for a Sports Dietician, Sports Nutrition. This is a full-time (probationary and FLSA-exempt) position which includes full University benefits. The University of Iowa is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference. Responsibilities: The Sports Dietitian is responsible for the day-to-day nutrition provision for the student-athletes, developing strategies to enhance nutritional offerings and improve operational efficiencies, supervising and managing workforce of students and volunteers, and assisting the Director of Sports Nutrition with developing, coordinating, and administering comprehensive evidence-based nutrition services to student-athletes as a member of a multidisciplinary sports medicine and sport performance teams. This position requires frequent travel, work in the evenings, on weekends and holidays, a valid U.S. driving license, and the ability to meet the University of Iowa Driving Program standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Dietetics/Nutrition or other related field; 
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) required. (Must obtain licensure in the State of Iowa within three months of hire date);
  • Six months experience in an athletics or clinical foodservice setting or other foodservice management experience; 
  • SERV Safe or comparable certification at time of hire or obtained within one month of hire;  
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to adapt communication styles in order to best communicate with individual or team; 
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships; 
  • A valid U.S. driving license and the ability to meet and maintain University of Iowa Driving Policy standards; 
  • Working knowledge of and ability to:
                     Utilize basic office support software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and                              programs to create education materials, e.g. Visme or Canva.
                     Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment

  • Ability to work non-standard work week, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program;
  • Six months to one year of professional sports nutrition experience in a collegiate, professional, or Olympic athletics setting;
  • Some experience working in a clinical nutrition setting;
  • Degree and/or advanced training in food service, hospitality management, or a related field; 
  • Experience working in foodservice or inventory management;
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Iowa Food Code.
