As our Culinary Nutrition Intern, you'll spend the 2024-2025 NBA Season reporting to the Director of Nutrition/Executive Chef, supporting the Trail Blazer Nutrition team. In this role, you will have a unique opportunity to be involved in multiple aspects of the Blazers organization, including nutrition, dietetics, and the culinary aspects of daily operations.

About the Internship:

  • Internship Duration: September 2024 – April 2025 with potential for extension based on NBA post-season.
  • Part-time commitment: Expect to work an average of 28-30 hours per week.
  • Location: Tualatin, Oregon; this is an on-site role, not remote.

As our Culinary Nutrition Intern, you will:

 

Daily Operations:

  • Support the Director of Nutrition, Executive Chef, and Nutrition Staff with daily meal and snack preparation.
  • Maintain front kitchen and café inventory, including ordering, stocking, and creating/editing inventory lists as needed.
  • Perform in-person grocery shopping twice weekly to meet all nutrition and kitchen operation needs.
  • Maintain positive relationships with vendors to ensure smooth procurement processes.
 

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with the culinary team to address athlete needs, including menu development, allergies/intolerances, and kitchen prep.
  • Assist with all departmental monthly expense reports.
  • Provide professional customer service and communication to all entities.
  • Support on home game days, with rotations for morning Practice Facility and game night coverage.
 

Food Safety and Reporting:

  • Ensure the quality and safety of food by adhering to sanitary measures, including cleaning surfaces, sweeping floors, and properly storing food items.
  • Follow proper reporting procedures for accidents and incidents to ensure follow-up and prevention.
  • Adhere to all regulations, including bloodborne pathogens, infection control, hazardous materials, and fire safety.
 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Handle the responsibility of dropping off plane meals 50% of the time during travel.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by the Director of Nutrition and Director of Performance Nutrition & Dietetics.
  • Adapt to a constantly changing environment and work autonomously when needed.
